2 main takeaways from the Tekken Talk livestream

TEKKEN – There are already additions coming to Tekken 8 as announced during the first Tekken Talk Live since the game’s release.

Michael Murray, Katsuhiro Harada, Yasuda Esports, and Kohei “Nakatsu” Ikeda provided the new information early Tuesday morning during the live stream on YouTube.

During the presentation, they broke down the game’s post-release roadmap but out of all the information presented, there are two pieces of info that players were probably the most focused on.

Eddy Gordo/Updates coming soon

To start, the team announced that the first DLC – Eddy Gordo – does not have an official release date yet but will be available in the spring, with other characters coming throughout the year. According to a PowerPoint, his date will be announced when it’s confirmed.

They did show some gameplay and costumes – including his T7 attire – and that he will be on the main menu instead of Kazuya.

Updates for T8 have already been scheduled – one between February and March, the next in April, and more after May. The next update will feature the new “Tekken Shop”, in-game collaboration with clothing brand UNIQLO, and adjustments/properties to some of the character’s moves.

Tekken World Tour 2024

The Tekken World Tour 2024, or TWT for short, kicks off on April 13 followed by the Last Chance Qualifier and the TWT Finals. Those dates are yet to be announced.

They will only feature offline events with global and regional leaderboards.

The tour will follow the placements via points for Master+, Master, Challenger, and Dojo for the global leaderboard. The first two Master+ events will take place this year starting at Evo Japan in Ariake Gym-Ex in Tokyo from April 27 to 29. The other event was not announced but will become available at a later date.

For regional leaderboards, points are earned by competing in Dojo events in the player’s region. Once selected, players can not change regions. Submissions for Dojo events will begin at the end of March. The Top 6 places will be calculated to determine the placement on the regional leaderboard, according to Murray.

The purpose behind the Dojo is to help support the player’s local scene, Murray said.

“The whole point of this regional leaderboard is we hope that you support your local scene, and support these tournaments that are close to you,” he said.

Players will be able to earn points for both leaderboards.
